Meet Our Staff
Our staff team consists of uniformed RAF Air Cadets adult volunteers and civilian instructors, each bringing valuable skills and experience to support our cadets' development.
Working together, our staff aim to inspire, enable and equip young people for success, developing qualities that will serve them throughout their lives.

Flt Lt Ashcroft serves as the Officer in Charge of 485 Squadron.
He provides leadership and operational guidance to the squadron, overseeing all activities and ensuring the safety and welfare of cadets and staff.

Sergeant Brown is the Squadron Senior Non-Commissioned Officer, a qualified Drill Instructor, RTF Lead, and Security Officer.
Sgt Brown manages drill, discipline, and the Cadet NCO team. He oversees recruitment, cadet induction, and training, supporting smooth squadron operations alongside the Officer in Charge.

Civilian Instructor Pickup is the Squadron Training Officer, and has a passion for STEM and Space.
CI Pickup organises the training program and delivers the space syllabus on squadron. She also leads on presentation skills and works closely with the staff team to ensure a positive experience for all cadets.

Sergeant Jarvis serves as the Squadron Adjutant, Shooting Officer, and First Aid Officer.
Sgt Jarvis delivers first aid training and supports shooting at the squadron, drawing on skills from his work in the ambulance service to help cadets build confidence and real-world skills. As Adjutant, he assists with squadron administration and operations.

Sergeant Brookes is the Fieldcraft Training Officer and Sports Officer.
As a former cadet, Sergeant Brookes enthuses the young people in all aspects of fieldcraft and outdoor activities. She is also responsible for the stores, issuing uniform and maintaining equipment and resources for the cadets.

Civilian Instructor Titus is the Squadron Cyber Officer, as well as the Media and Music Officer.
CI Titus supports the squadron's technical needs and delivers the Cyber syllabus. As an ex-cadet who was actively involved, he now encourages cadets to explore cyber while also supporting cadet involvement in music.

CI Shanmuganathan provides essential support to the squadron’s activities, assisting with supervision, and general operations. Her commitment helps ensure the squadron runs smoothly and effectively.

CI Bhagat plays a vital role in supporting the squadron’s day-to-day functions. He assists across various areas, contributing to the efficient running of activities and the overall support of cadets and staff.
Civilian Committee and Other

Mr Pickup serves as the Squadron Treasurer, managing the squadron's finances and ensuring proper financial oversight.
He plays a crucial role in maintaining the squadron's finances and supporting its activities.

Rev'd Parker serves as the Squadron Padre, providing spiritual and pastoral support.
He is available to support all members of the squadron regardless of faith or belief.

Mr Atkinson is the Chair of the Civilian Committee, overseeing the squadron’s governance and leading the team that supports its wider community engagement and fundraising efforts.

Miss Leaver serves as the Committee Secretary, managing correspondence, records, and administrative support to ensure the smooth running of the squadron committee.

Mr Henderson is an active member of the Civilian Committee, contributing to the ongoing support of the squadron and its cadet activities.
